Installing and Using WebDAV

WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning". It allows users to upload/download, edit and manage files on the TBS server. This How-To walks through the steps to setup and access WebDAV.

WebDAV Installation Procedures

WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning". It allows users to upload/download, edit and manage files on the TBS server. Saving files directly to WebDAV (i.e., from within an application, such as Word, Excel, or Internet Explorer)does not work reliably. For best results, save the file to your computer first, and then upload it to the site provided by TBS.

Note: When naming an item such as a file or folder, avoid using either foreign characters or the unsupported characters below, as any of these characters can cause an error when you attempt to upload the file.

Important: Before setting up WebDAV you must install the following Microsoft Update.

For information about the update and how to download it, see article 907306 in Microsoft's knowledge base (you can search the knowledge base here).

Windows XP

In Windows XP, WebDAV can be used by adding a Network Place (also referred to as "mounting a drive") under "My Network Places".

Using the Add Network Place Wizard

  1. On the desktop, click "Start" then "My Network Places"

  11. There are several ways you can move files back and forth between your computer and your site (web folders).
    • You can drag and drop files (you cannot delete items by dragging them to the Recycle Bin on your desktop. To delete an item, right-click it and select "Delete" or highlight the item and select "Delete" under Folder Tasks on the left of the page).
    • You can right click on the file and use Cut/Copy/Paste functionality.
    • You can use the Folder Tasks on the left of the page to Move, Copy, and Delete items.
  12. For future use of the site. Go to Start/My Network Places and double-click on the named Network Place and enter your Citrix user name and password if prompted.
Note: If you have previously accessed the site and have not shut down your computer, it may not prompt you for your password.

  13. When you're finished, exit Internet Explorer to close your connection.

If you experience any connection problems, Microsoft has a software update available that may help correct connection problems.
