New Software Integration model is “Genius.”
In this whitepaper series Jay Ethridge and Joe Jezior of Technology & Business Solutions (TBS) review the vulnerabilities associated with traditional custom software integrations, explore the facets of the integration lifecycle and how ETL technology delivers dramatic efficiencies, and itemize the benefits of today’s cloud- and platform-based integrators for organizations looking to connect their Accounting systems with their corporate HR, CRM or other systems.
“Talent imitates. Genius borrows.” This aphorism was first attributed to Galileo Galilei, someone who knew a thing or two about genius – the Renaissance physicist, mathematician and astronomer is widely hailed as the “Father of Modern Science.” (Galileo is perhaps best known for “borrowing” and advancing Copernicus’s theory that the Sun is the center of our planetary system. His radical new view ultimately found him lifetime house arrest via The Inquisition.)
Of course advancing technology is all about borrowing and building upon the best solutions, practices and applications, and this is particularly true in the world of software development, where universal programming languages form the bedrock of all commercial products.
Surprisingly, when it comes to integrating software – that is, creating programmed connectors to synchronize accounting systems, for example, with other corporate software assets – the solutions have traditionally been talented imitators, custom applications written by programmers and consultants that work just like other custom applications written for other businesses.
So, where’s the genius?
With the advent of new Cloud-based platforms that Extract, Transform and Load data from one corporate system to another – these appliances are called ETLs – accounting system integrations are finally borrowing the best, and delivering standardization. This paradigm shift from customized connectors to scalable platforms is moving the creation and support for integrations from talented individuals to sophisticated software companies, with all their attendant resources, quality control and support infrastructure.
To continue our Galileo theme, the difference is like night and day.
Where before traditional custom integrations typically exposed businesses with static and stale programming with little-to-no documentation, no built-in maintenance, and worrisome security and audit risks (all at the cost of significant time and budget dollars), today’s integration platforms are standardized, cloud-powered, maintained by software providers, and cost a fraction of the time and expense.
In this whitepaper series from Technology & Business Solutions LLC (TBS) we'll review the vulnerabilities associated with traditional custom software integrations, explore the facets of the integration lifecycle and how ETL technology delivers dramatic efficiencies, and itemize the benefits of today’s cloud- and platform-based integrators.
The bottom line for business – genius trumps talent every time.
- PART 1: Talented Imitators – Custom Integrations Create Vulnerabilities.
- PART 2: Standardized Customizations – Bringing the Integration Lifecycle to The Cloud.
- PART 3: Borrowed Genius – Cloud Integration Platforms Deliver Dramatic Benefits.
